Twice a year, FareShare partner’s with Tesco and the Trussell Trust hold the UK’s biggest food drive and Greencore is asking it’s colleagues to volunteer to support this collection.

The Neighbourhood Food Collection takes place over 3rd, 4th and 5th December at Tesco stores across the UK and we are looking for those who can spare some time to collect food donations from customers.

The ask is simple: we are looking for volunteers to encourage Tesco customers to donate items from our shopping list, which we will redistribute to over 2,000 charities and community projects across the UK.

The ambient food we collect at the Neighbourhood Food Collection includes tinned fish, pasta, rice and tea, etc. which don’t appear as surplus very often. By collecting them from Tesco customers, we can provide our charity partners with essential store-cupboard staples, alongside the surplus meat, dairy and fruit and veg we receive from across the food industry. Tesco don’t profit from the event as they give a financial contribution equal to 30% of the value of the food donated, money we can use to keep our warehouses running, our chillers cool and our vans on the road. They also support us by sorting, transport and deliver the products to our Depots for us to disperse to charities.

Please use the postcode search to find your nearest participating store (the Neighbourhood Food Collection is a collaboration between Tesco, FareShare and the Trussell Trust so we only recruit volunteers for FareShare stores) and to register. The shifts are bookable as three hours each and run from 9am-12pm; 12pm-3pm; 3pm-6pm; 6pm-9pm but any time you can give makes a huge difference, so please don’t feel put off if you only spare an hour.
