Greencore proudly marked the beginning of its centenary year with a special market opening event at the London Stock Exchange.

The ceremony, held on Thursday 28 May, brought together members of Greencore’s Board and Executive teams, alongside trusted advisors and colleague representatives from across the business. The event symbolised both a moment of reflection and a forward-looking celebration as the company embarks on its 100th year.

Greencore’s history can be traced back to the opening of the Irish Sugar factory in Carlow in 1926 – a landmark moment that laid the foundations for what has become a major international food business. From those beginnings, Greencore has evolved into a leading fresh convenience food manufacturer, now employing approximately 28,000 people across 36 manufacturing sites and 21 distribution centres in the UK and the US.

Today’s event also recognised a transformative year for the Group, following the successful combination of Greencore with Bakkavor in January 2026. This combination has further strengthened Greencore’s scale, capabilities and market leadership, enhancing its ability to serve customers and innovate in fresh food.

Speaking at the event, Dalton Philips, Chief Executive Officer of Greencore, said:
“Today marks a significant moment in Greencore’s history. As we celebrate 100 years since our origins in Carlow, we are proud of how far we have come – from a single sugar factory to a leading international food business serving millions of consumers every day. The combination with Bakkavor earlier this year represents the next chapter in that journey, and we are excited about the opportunities it creates for our colleagues, customers and investors.”

The market opening ceremony forms the first in a series of activities planned throughout Greencore’s centenary year, which will celebrate the company’s heritage, recognise the contribution of colleagues past and present, and highlight its ambitions for the future.
