The Tesco Farm to Fork initiative continues to gather pace at Greencore Grocery in Hull. Little Weighton Primary School were our latest visitors when their entire years 2, 3 and 4 (just 16 children across three year groups) came to visit our site in May.

The visit began with a short presentation about how we work on site and the children (and teachers) were fascinated to hear just how many cakes and desserts we make every day.

They were then split into four groups and given different coloured hairnets to distinguish who was in which team for a production themed maths test. Either they are all mathematicians in the making or I’m a poor quizmaster because all four teams scored 100%.

The most exciting part of a visit to site is always the time spent on the viewing gallery which gives both pupils and teachers alike a chance to appreciate the sheer scale of what we do.

The children had their packed lunches in the staff canteen and then returned to the training room for a questions and answers session.

After a long day, the children climbed onto their mini-bus loaded up with cakes to take back to school and set off on their journey back to Little Weighton.
