Greencore Kiveton, a leading manufacturer of chilled ready meals, soups and quiche,  was delighted to welcome the Master Cutler, Dame Julie Kenny DBE DL, head of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire to its site as part of a recent visit.

Dame Julie Kenny met with Greencore Kiveton General Manager, Darren Haywood, and took part in a tour of the site’s state of the art manufacturing facilities. She also had the opportunity to meet other members of the Greencore team and learn more about Greencore’s history in the region and the role that it plays in the community as one of the UK’s leading food manufacturers.

The visit was coordinated by the National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University in order to raise the profile of the food and drink manufacturing sector in Sheffield and South Yorkshire, and the contribution it makes to the regional economy as well as to local communities.

Commenting on the visit Darren Haywood said:

“It was a pleasure to welcome Dame Julie and her colleagues to our site. We have a long-standing history of food manufacturing here, and we continue to invest heavily in our site at Kiveton, which makes us one of the most modern quiche and ready meals manufacturers in the UK.

“We supply all of the major supermarkets with great tasting products, but we can only do this by having an excellent, well-motivated team of people working for us. Dame Julie and I agreed that the food industry is really one of the hidden gems in the region and we need to do more to remind people of the fantastic career development opportunities that are available in our sector. We’re looking forward to working more closely with the Company of Cutlers in the future.”

Dame Julie Kenny said:

“The visit was so enlightening.  I was really impressed with the company Greencore and its manufacturing plant.  I learned about their history, values and opportunities afforded to their staff.  The work that they do in the community is really valuable and life changing, and I am so proud to have such a manufacturing company in the region. “
